Fruitful teaches kids about the fruit of the Spirit Paul wrote about in his letter to the church in Galatia:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

There are nine types of ‘fruit’ to cover in five days of lessons, so two types of ‘fruit’ are covered on most of the days.

Day One - Monday

Kindness and Gentleness

Story: The Birth of Jesus

Truth (Younger Kids)

Jesus loves us. Jesus taught us to be kind and gentle.

Truth (Older Kids)

God demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son Jesus. Jesus could have come in any form, but He came as a baby. Jesus showed us and taught us how to live kindly and gently towards others.

Verse (Younger Kids)

Be kind to one another…
Ephesians 4:32

Verses (Older Kids)

Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.
Philippians 4:5

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Day Two - Tuesday

Self-control

Story: The Lord’s Prayer

Truth (Younger Kids)

Jesus taught us how to pray. Jesus helps us to be good.

Truth (Older Kids)

Self-control can be difficult. If we have God’s Spirit in us, God helps us control ourselves. Jesus taught us a prayer that helps us ask God for help with self-control, temptation, and forgiving others.

The Lord’s Prayer
Matthew 6:9-13

Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.”
Matthew 6:9-13

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control.

Day Three - Wednesday

Goodness and Faithfulness

Story: The Good Father (Luke 15:11-32)

Truth

God never gives up on us.

Verse

The faithfulness of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease.

Day Four - Thursday

Love and Joy

Story: Jesus' Death, Burial, and Resurrection

Truth (Younger Kids)

God is love.

Truth (Older Kids)

Humans chose sin, and our sin separates us from God. God loved us and sent his Son to die in our place so our sin could be washed away. Jesus brings us back into a right relationship with God.

Verse (Younger Kids)

God is love.
1 John 4:8

Verse (Older Kids)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

Day Five - Friday

Peace and Patience

Story: The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

Truth (Younger Kids)

God keeps His promises.

Truth (Older Kids)

God keeps his promises. God promised to send the Messiah to take care of our sin problem. He kept that promise when He sent Jesus to die in our place and to rise again. Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to help us after Jesus went back to his Father. He kept that promise and the Holy Spirit was given to us at Pentecost.

Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid.”

I waited patiently for the Lord, and He heard my cry.
Psalm 40:1

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27

These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
